Even though you’re a beginner or professional boxer, sparring hikes up your boxing game in so many ways. Below are the benefits of sparring for boxing.
- Taste of the “Real Fight”: It’s said about boxing that you never feel you are truly “ready” for this game. Either you are too excited, or are scared both of the feelings are normal. Sparring creates a real fighting environment for you. You get to dodge and move away, punch the real person while putting on your boxing gloves. Trying all these in the ring is amazing.
- Skill Improvement: Even if you have punched the heavy bags uncountable times, training with a real person by executing professional punching techniques is different. You get to estimate your punch landing ability,& how you will be able to defend yourself. It sharpens your attack and defending skills.

Get the Most out of your Sparring Sessions
1) Get in the ring with a plan
Sparring is equally a tactical activity as it’s the physical one. One would want to jump in the ring with a concrete strategy regarding what they want to achieve. You must have a game plan in your mind that you will look forward to following. Each of your sparring sessions should be focused on honing a particular skill. You practice your fighting combinations against your live opponent.
Whatever you want to get trained for whether it’s your counter punching & timing, make sure your sparring partner is notified before proceeding to execute.
You might practice clinching, inform him so he will close the gap & fight the inside. With a plan and clear intention of whatever you want to train you don’t blindly get into the fight. Keep in mind that it’s not a real fight so don’t treat it like one.
2) Find yourself comfortable boxing stance

Solid defensive skills distinguish amateurs from pros. The good defense also amplifies the offensive skills. Also sparring is a controlled session for getting a clean blow. There’s no perfect time & place for discovering if you are capable of taking a blow or not.
5) Learn to breathe and let go of worry
Your Breathing is the vital segment of fighting. Just remember to take deep breaths while you have the time to work on fast exhaling while you are moving around. You rush in the ring & you are worried that the punches will have that effect you expect them to have on your opponent every little minute thing will get in your head and affect your game.
This will eventually affect your breathing, struggling breathing can affect your game and leave you stressed in the ring. It’s something that you would never want to happen to you in the ring. Sparring is the best time to develop endurance for this. Also do not worry about getting the hit, don’t get worried about losing how your punches look or even if you are making so many mistakes in the ring. You are supposed to get hit, you are supposed to make mistakes, it’s what practicing is all about.
